Our Favorite Wedding Paper Trends of 2018 - 2019

wedding wedding invitations

As a wedding stationery designer myself, I'm always on the lookout for new and emerging trends in the wedding paper industry. There are so many different styles, colors, paper types, and embellishments that can really help bring your wedding stationery up a notch. If you're looking for some new and different ways to upgrade traditional wedding invitations, look no further. I've compiled this list of five of my favorite beautiful wedding paper trends emerging for the 2018 and 2019 wedding seasons.

1. Vellum

Vellum is a semi-transparent paper with a matte shine. It holds inks well and is a great way to layer a more minimalist layout on top of a more colorful or detailed background. And it's so versatile!

2. Natural Paper & "Deckled" Edges

I'm loving all of the natural looking papers I've seen being used in wedding stationery recently. The rough, "deckled edge" of the paper is typically the result of handmade paper, but it can also be created manually on regular paper. It can really add a soft, romantic touch!

3. Acrylic Invitations

While these are not technically "paper", acrylic wedding invitations have become increasingly popular this year. They're extra durable, and can be produced in many different ways to create some really unique stationery sets! They can be engraved, printed on, or even hand-lettered with the right type of pen!

4. Non-Traditional Shapes

Geometric shapes and patterns have been popular for several years now, and more recently we've seen an increase in similar unique shapes for many items in wedding stationery suites. Die-cutting machines are usually used to help mass-produce different shapes, which can range from simple to complex!

5. Laser Cut Embellishments

Laser-cutting is an even more advanced way to create beautiful embellishments and designs cut out of paper. Laser cutting has been most frequently used to create lace and floral patterns around pocket envelopes or on the edges of an invitation. More recently, we've seen many more unique and modern usages for laser-cutting, like the hexagonal example below! There are so many possibilities with this one.
